RI Witness – how we rule out mix-ups in the lab

Since March 2024 we have been using the RI Witness safety system for all insemination, IVF and ICSI treatments. What exactly is behind it and why it matters to you.

What is RI Witness?

An electronic system that reliably prevents mix-ups of patient samples in the IVF lab. Every container with eggs, sperm or embryos is coded with an RFID chip and monitored seamlessly.

Your personal chip card

Before treatment you receive a chip card with your encrypted data. You bring this to every insemination, egg retrieval or embryo transfer.

Why is this important?

In rare cases, mix-ups have occurred in IVF labs worldwide. RI Witness makes this practically impossible – the system issues a warning as soon as non-matching samples are in close proximity to each other.

We are among the few practices in Berlin to use this system.
