When a fertility check makes sense – even without an acute wish to have children

Dr. med. Susann KreuzJanuary 20264 min

Do I need an acute wish to have children to come for a fertility check? No. More and more women use a precautionary fertility check – and that is absolutely sensible.

What is examined?

  • AMH level (Anti-Müllerian hormone): provides information about your egg reserve.
  • Ultrasound of the ovaries: antral follicle count (AFC) – counts the available follicles.
  • Hormone status: FSH, LH, oestradiol, thyroid values.

Who is it sensible for?

  • Women from 28–30 who wish to postpone their family planning.
  • Women with a family history (early menopause in the family).
  • Women before social freezing.
  • Women with endometriosis or PCOS.

What does it cost?

The AMH test costs approx. €50 as a self-pay service. A complete fertility check including ultrasound approx. €100 – 200.
